It has been a superb weekend for our Year 9 students on their Bronze expedition. They have excelled with their teamwork, organisation and resilience. A great performance from them all.

Our Year 9 students have had a superb time this weekend and have impressed greatly with their teamwork, organisation and understanding of their tasks. Well done to them all.

At the weekend, our librarian, had the opportunity At the weekend, our librarian, had the opportunity to attend a conference, organised by the School Library Association, in Winchester, based on the theme ‘Changing Narratives’.

The conference consisted of engaging talks and workshops from the CEO of the National Literacy Trust, authors of YA and children’s fiction including Patrice Lawrence, Tasneem Abdur-Rashid, Nicola Garrard, Jamie Smart, Iqbal Hussain, Abigail Balfe, and Dame Jacqueline Wilson, hearing from school librarians from around the country, literary experts from the OU and Empathy Lab.

Key topics included: the National Year of Reading and discovering how you can bring your passions to reading, the power of graphic novels, character representation (seeing yourself) in books, allowing time for book talk to enable literature to ‘breathe’, sharing good practice, learning about the latest research on views represented in the language of YA fiction and using books to learn and act on empathy.

Mr Ricketts was able to receive a free selection of books for our shelves when viewing publisher exhibitor stands and even win a selection of books in the 2025-26 ‘Spark Book Award’.

🏅 Incredible news from our Duke of Edinburgh's Awa 🏅 Incredible news from our Duke of Edinburgh's Award community!

Between April 2025 and March 2026, Bottisham Village College students collectively volunteered 4,290 hours — contributing an estimated social value of £32,388 to their communities.

That's not just a number. That's young people giving their time, pushing themselves, and making a real difference to the world around them.

DofE is one of the many ways we help our students grow beyond the classroom — building resilience, character, and a sense of responsibility that lasts a lifetime. It sits right at the heart of what we believe a Bottisham education should be: ambitious, purposeful, and rooted in values.

We couldn't be prouder. Well done to every single student who took part. 👏

🌟 Brilliant work from two of our students, Lydia, 🌟 Brilliant work from two of our students, Lydia, Meredith and Evie!

Last week, Lydia and Evie had the incredible opportunity to visit Illumina — a world-leading genomics company — as part of their preparation for the World Scout Jamboree. 🧬🌍

They toured the labs, got hands-on with equipment in the training lab, and deepened their understanding of DNA — knowledge that links directly to the theme of their Jamboree unit. Most impressively, the visit helped them raise over £500 towards their Jamboree fundraising goal! 💪

We're so proud of Lydia and Evie — and we'd also like to celebrate Meredith, who has also been selected to represent Cambridgeshire as part of the UK contingent at the World Scout Jamboree. A fantastic achievement! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone at Illumina for being so welcoming, giving up their time, and supporting our students in such a meaningful way. 🙏
