Activities Week: Year 8 in Normandy

Bonjour from Normandy! After a good breakfast, our Year 8s set off to explore the Caen Memorial Museum. A powerful short film about WW2 and the significance of the D-Day landings set the tone for a moving and informative visit, with students exploring everything the museum had to offer, including a bunker.

A typical French baguette for lunch 🥖 and on to the next stop: Merville Battery Museum!

Our students are being great: curious, respectful and making the most of every moment. History comes alive when you stand where it happened. 💙

🎭 Activities Week: Year 9 Macbeth 🎭

Something wicked this way comes! After yesterday's workshop and performance of Macbeth, today our Year 9s took to the stage themselves: reenacting key scenes and doing so convincingly! 👏

From witches to warriors, students brought Shakespeare's darkest tragedy to life with real energy and skill. There's no better way to understand a text than to step inside it.

🔥 Activities Week: Year 8 Bushcraft 🔥

Back to our primal roots! Today our Year 8s have been mastering the oldest skills of all: striking sparks to light their own fires, kneading and baking bread over the flames 🍞, and learning what it takes to thrive in the great outdoors 🌳.

There's something powerful about stripping things back to basics. Patience, teamwork and a bit of grit: skills as valuable today as they've ever been.

🚀 Activities Week: Year 8 Rocket Design 🚀

Reaching for the skies! Our Year 8s have been putting their physics knowledge to work, applying the principles of pressure and aerodynamics to design and launch their own rockets 🔬.

Guided by our brilliant science team, students tested their designs, refined their thinking and saw first-hand how classroom learning takes flight in the real world. This is what great science education looks like: curiosity, precision and the confidence to experiment.

A great start to the week! Our Year 8s are soaking up the stunning Derbyshire landscape 🏞️, and the girls have been showing the boys how it's done on the rugby pitch 🏉. The evening rounded off with everyone gathered to watch Spain vs Portugal ⚽.
