Mental Health Needs of Children & Young People (CPD Workshop) 10/06/23
Presented by Dr Karen John
This one-day workshop offers counselling students, and practicing counsellors/psychotherapists and other professionals working with children or young people, the opportunity to explore, interactively and from multiple perspectives, the mental health, emotional and developmental needs of our young and ways to understand and promote wellbeing, demystify diagnostic labels and focus on the relationship between social context, authority structures, unmet needs and behaviour.
Methods:
We will clarify what we mean by ‘mental health’ and consider our responses to a range of mental health problems and anti-social behaviours; define diagnostic labels, their use and misuse; identify factors that protect and undermine good mental health; and deepen appreciation of our basic social and psychological needs across the life span.
Participants are invited to bring case material (appropriately disguised) or specific issues relating to their own experience in the counselling/ psychotherapy process. The aim is to make the workshop as relevant and immediate as possible to all.
